How a Montreal based company is helping restaurants through COVID-19
Name: Eric Haniak
Company: CHK PLZ
Eric is one of the founders of the CHK PLZ mobile app, a contactless payment solution that allows customers in bars and restaurants to pay their bill directly from their phones.
When COVID-19 happened and with all the closure of the restaurants, our main CHK PLZ idea became useless. So the first two following weeks we just decided to do what we can to help the industry as much as possible. Our first initiative was a gift card that people could buy through our app to use at a later date. We would then transfer the money right away to the restaurant without taking any cut. This was all about helping them to generate a bit of cash flow in the meantime.
Our CTO - a genius - spent 30 hours straight coding the first version of the platform.
Then after speaking with our clients, we realized there was a huge need for some type of commission-free online ordering platform that would ultimately help restaurants go through this. As a reference, Uber Eats charges on average 30% per order. Our CTO - a genius - spent 30 hours straight coding the first version of the platform. Now we are spreading it across all Montreal and only three weeks after this initiative, we already have 50 locations using our service.
